Don’t Let Your Next Road Trip Turn Into a Horror Movie

It always starts so innocently. A family or group of friends hitting the wide open road. Hours later, they’re stranded in the middle of the desert, trying to desperately hitchhike towards civilization. Is the next driver that stops a serial killer?

Of course they are. They always are.

Preparing Your Car for a Road Trip

Do you ever find yourself yelling at the people in horror movies? Everyone does, from time to time. Truth be told, it’s not that hard to avoid being murdered. You just need to take some precautions. Road trips are the same way.

To prepare your car for a road trip:

  • Inspect your tires. Make sure your tire pressure is good and that your tires still have good tread.
  • Pack emergency supplies. That includes road flares, space blankets, and a good amount of water.
  • Get your fluids changed. If you’re going on a long road trip and your maintenance is about to come up, get it done now.

Most problems with a car are easily foreseeable. You just need the right maintenance. Take your car in for a tune up before any multi-day trips. Of course, that’s not going to prevent you from doing something silly like running out of gas — or running over a mysterious stranger in the middle of the road. For that, you’re going to need to remain attentive.

Getting the Insurance You Need

You don’t have to rely on a murderer to get you to the nearest gas station if you have roadside assistance. It’s time to check in with an independent insurance agent and make sure you have the coverage you need. Auto insurance policies are all different, so you shouldn’t just assume that you have coverage or wait until you need coverage to check.

Your auto insurance can:

  • Tow your vehicle to civilization no matter where you are.
  • Arrange for (and often even pay for) a rental car, depending on your insurance coverage.
  • Get your vehicle fixed for you, including finding the nearest repair shop.
  • And, perhaps most importantly, pick you up at the side of the road before you succumb to exposure.

Auto insurance is intended to handle these types of emergency events. But if you don’t have the right auto insurance coverage, you could find your entire trip ruined.

Planning a trip now? It’s time to connect with an independent insurance agent to learn about your options for coverage.
